Team Free Radicals was founded on August 17, 2012 by Cybil War, Hannthrax, and Breeder. Three skaters who were looking to form a different kind of derby team. One that was open to any skater willing to work hard and play hard. TFR wanted to embrace skaters who also played with other teams, skaters who were just starting out, as well as skaters who had retired because other local derby leagues demanded too much of their time. TFR became home to all of those types of skaters and more.

Since its inception TFR has graduated skaters from its ranks into many other leagues and teams including the Texas Rollergirls Hell Marys, Honky Tonk Heartbreakers, Hustlers, Hotrod Honeys, the Firing Squad (B-team travel team), the Texecutioners (A-team travel team); Angel City Hollywood Scarlets (A-team travel team); the Texas Roller Derby Cherry Bombs, Hell Cats, and Rhinestone Cowgirls; the Rockin’ City Rollergirls; Cen-Tex Rollergirls; and Team Texas!

The team continues to be exceedingly proud of its current and retired skaters and looks forward to many more years of growth in our skills and in the supportive community we strive to cultivate.

Team Free Radicals is Austin’s first independent, non-league-affiliated scrimmage team. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment for our skaters to learn to play as a team, hone our individual skills, work hard and have fun! We play derby for the love of the sport, for ourselves and each other.
